Award winning craft brewery, Darling Brew, has launched a unique take-home beer in a box tasting experience.
The new IPA (India Pale Ale) Experience gift pack consists of four different India Pale Ale beers – the original Thunderbird, plus three unique dry hopped IPA variants that have evolved from this popular original – all in 500ml bottles which are packaged in a gift box format.
Launched to coincide with, and celebrate, the one year anniversary of the custom-built Darling Brew Tasteroom and Brewery (which is situated in the town of Darling) the IPA Experience gift pack is part of a bigger conservation awareness drive around the endangered Southern Ground Hornbill.
Environmental focus at Darling Brew
All of Darling Brew’s beers are named after threatened and endangered animals, and the India Pale Ale is no different. Entitled “Thunderbird” this beer is named after the endangered Southern Ground Hornbill.
Kevin Wood, owner of Darling Brew, explains that they were approached by conservation biologist Lucy Kemp of the Mabula Ground Hornbill Project to help raise awareness of the plight of the Southern Ground Hornbill. “Lucy suggested the name Thunderbird as it is the cultural name given to this charismatic and iconic bird.”
“The new Darling Brew IPA Experience gift pack is part of our activism to create awareness around the need to conserve our wealth of nature, animals and birdlife in South Africa. It is only through actions that we take today, that we can make an impact on the outcome in 100 years,” says Wood.
Darling Brew’s environmental focus also recently led this craft brewery to launch the first carbon neutral beer in South Africa called Blood Serpent – which is named after the Secretary Bird, another endangered South African bird.
The IPA Experience explained
The unique IPA Experience gift pack is designed to give consumers a craft beer taste journey into the many different variants of India Pale Ale – which is a flavoursome and “easy-drinking” beer – often the first stop in appreciating craft beers.
The beers in the gift pack consist of the original Thunderbird, plus a spicy Simcoe; Cashmere, which brings aromas of Coconut and Pineapple; and Citra, which has loads of fresh lychee and guava undertones.
The Darling Brew IPA Experience gift pack will be exclusively available at Checkers stores nationwide from 15 November, and at the Darling Brew Tasteroom and Brewery.
