Unleash your inner hippie at this flower-filled festival that promises magical sounds and scenery

Picture yourself waking up to the majestic Cederberg Mountains stretching up to the sky around you, while pulsating beats and festival gees (spirit) hover tangibly in the air, alive with possibility. Pretty green fynbos and tall trees mingle with bright carpets of flowers, and your friends are dancing alongside you, with the sounds of laid-back electronic music completing the scene.

Returning for the third consecutive year, say hello to the springtime celebration that is the Power Flower Picnic. Usually taking place at the end of August, the event has been moved to early September (Friday, 9 to Sunday, 11 September 2016) and is being hosted at the Wolfkop Camping Villages in Citrusdal. Being on the official-side of spring, expect to put on some shorts and allow those twinkle-toes to get some fresh air.

This music festival-come-weekend away is the perfect way to shake off the winter cobwebs and welcome the summer season in all its sun-shiny glory. The idea behind the Power Flower Picnic is that you as the attendee can choose your own experience. Want to lay down a picnic blanket and have a chilled afternoon on the riverbank? Want to have some wine and play garden games or bust a move on the dance floor? All things are possible; make the most of the time outdoors and indulge in the incredible music soundscape of top local and international artists on rotation.

The beautiful campsites are located at the bottom of an orange grove, along the Olifants River; you can opt to camp in style with a fully-kitted LUX Camping set-up or bring your own gear to camp within a beautiful forest glen. Citrusdal is a sensational place to spend a weekend out of the city so come and reconnect with nature, and frolic on the riverbank as you can exclusively at a Wolfkop Weekender Festival.

The Power Flower Picnic has become the season opener for the Western Cape’s summer festival circuit. At this event, a considered curation of live electronic music, friends old and new, and playful relaxation in nature, all come together to create one weekend of pure bliss.

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR THE 2016 WOLFKOP WEEKENDER: POWER FLOWER PICNIC 

TONS OF POWER FLOWER FUN: As expected, the event will stay true to the theme, with plenty of space for attendees to enjoy the outdoors. Although the water might be a bit chilly for you to take a Lilo and meander down the Olifants River (we dare you to have a go and jump in anyway!), festivalgoers are still in for an outdoors experience that skriks vir niks.

THREE DAYS OF MIND-BLOWING MUSIC: With a line-up that includes Clarian, Trancemicsoul, Thor Rixon and Beat Sampras, you can see why the Power Flower Picnic has a reputation for being a music lover’s paradise. 

FOOD, DRINKS AND MORE: If you’re feeling peckish, don’t despair! The festival will have food truck vendors and stalls serving fresh and flavoursome fare, and a fully stocked bar with ice-cold refreshments and craft beer to get the party atmosphere going. Plus, there’s always a pop-up tea-time treat to look out for.

GLAMPING WITH A VIEW: The Wolfkop Camping Villages are idyllic little tent towns surrounded by the breathtaking Citrusdal Valley. The site is right on the banks of the Olifants River to complete the picture of paradise and is equipped with permanent bathroom facilities. The roughest it’s probably going to get is just waking up in the morning.

So considering all of the above, it is easy to see why the Wolfkop Weekender Festival is one of the most popular affairs on the Cape Town music event calendar.

TICKETS FOR THE 2016 POWER FLOWER PICNIC AT WOLFKOP CAMPING VILLAGE IN CITRUSDAL

Tickets for the event are available online at Nutickets.co.za and range in price from R950p/p to R1750p/p. There are three ticket options available, each varying in price. Unfortunately the early bird has flown, so ticket prices quoted here are normal prices.

BYO Camping Pass – R950p/p – This ticket option includes festival entrance and two nights accommodation at the BYO Camping Village.

Comfort Camping Pass – R1350p/p – This ticket option includes festival entrance and two nights accommodation at the Comfort Camping Village. Your tent will be set up for you and will include a mattress and bedding. No frills, no fuss. The offer is priced per person, but the tickets are sold in pairs.

Lux Camping Pass – R1750p/p – This ticket option includes festival entrance and two nights accommodation at the Lux Camping Village. Your tent will be set up for you and will include mattresses with bedding, and various amenities including camping chairs, table, cutlery, crockery, toaster, a kettle and a braai.

WHAT TO BRING: 

• Camping gear (if you need it) and overnight necessities
• Swimming costumes and towels (If you’re feeling brave)
• Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses
• A picnic blanket or rug for setting up around the music stage
• A headlamp or torch for night time wanders
• Wellies and an umbrella, just in case there’s a spot of rain
• Warm clothes for the nights – it can get chilly!
