Join the Friends of Blaauwberg Conservation Area for a Heritage Talk on Saturday 25 FEBRUARY 2017.
Meet at the Environmental Education Cabin at Eerste Steen Resort, Big Bay at 9h30 for the presentation at 10h00.
Thereafter, at around 11h30, you may enjoy a picnic lunch or undertake a short walk.
Gavin Clackworthy, Historic Shipwreck Society, is the keynote speaker, he will give a presentation titled “TREASURE and TRAGEDY”.
Well known Shipwreck Archaeology diver, Steven Valentine will give an introduction to the speaker.
A short video on the “VICTORIA”, a replica East Indiaman, which was moored in the Waterfront as a floating exhibition of artefacts and story of “TREASURE and TRAGEDY” off our coastline will precede the talk.
You may wish to follow the talk with a casual walk on the beach to enjoy spectacular views of two World Heritage sites – Table Mountain and Robben Island or take the 4.1km Hiking trail in the coastal dune field.
You can envisage the area as occupied by the First people, known as Strandlopers or Beach Walkers, who lived and interacted with the early maritime visitors and traders.
If you wish to walk on the Dune Trail, please come equipped with hiking shoes, hats, sun protection, cameras and refreshments.
You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy at Eerste Steen Resort in the Environmental Cabin.
The event is free for Friends of BCA members.
New members can join at the event, otherwise gate fees apply and donation of R30 per person to Friends.
Pets are not allowed.
