Finding Clanwilliam Wildflowers

Frolic in the Flowers!

To all wildflower and road trip lovers: Clanwilliam cordially invites you to frolic in the flowers and view our `Blomkerk` displaying the annual wild flower show from 23 August until 1 September.

Harmony is this year`s theme

The focus this year is the balance between agricultural expansion and conservation. The stark reality of climate change cannot be ignored.

The Clanwilliam flower community is acutely aware of the responsibility to repair and conserve. This is precisely why we should celebrate our natural wonder and never take it for granted.

The flower show is a landscape creation by community volunteers displaying the most giant Aloe to the smallest Cyanella alba (handjie). The specie room boasts 350-400 species for individual viewing. The colloquial names of these flowers provide an amusing dimension to the wild flower experience.

People from far and wide attend the annual Clanwilliam Wild Flower Show that is hosted in the Blomkerk (Flower Church – built in 1864) in late winter towards early spring.

Clanwilliam is located on the West Coast Way Wild Route and its People Rocking Nature Track. The town was first called Jan Disselsvalleij, but later it was named after the Earl of Clanwilliam. It is one of the ten oldest towns in South Africa.
