#FlashbackFriday: Rocking The Daisies

West Coast Way brand ambassador Shameelah Kinnear attended this year’s Rocking The Daisies, who performed with Rapper/Singer Patty Monroe. I, personally, am not a big festival goer-but when I was invited to perform with Rapper/Singer Patty Monroe I could not dream of passing up the opportunity. Now that the buzz is dying down, I can finally embrace the few days that have passed.

Live Music, Dancing And Fun At Rocking The Daisies

We had a very late night rehearsal on Friday 6th October and decided to make it a group sleepover and mini road trip the following day. We were packed and in bed by 1:30 am and up and ready to go again at 10:30 am.

We met up with Patty’s manager at the mall and grabbed a few items we needed as well as a couple of snacks for the road. We arrived at Cloof Wine Estate shortly after 1 pm.

Everywhere I look, there are tents, people smiling for no reason, colorful clothes,  flowers in hair, and despite the wind and cold- I heard some people were swimming in the lake as  well.

Yup, we are definitely at the right place. Rocking The Daisies 2017- we are here!

After getting all our accreditations and making sure we are parked safely, we make our way to find the stage and area we will be staying in preparation for the performance.
As we walk, I look at everything and how big and spaced out it all is and I start to picture all the people that will fill it later on.

I appreciate the atmosphere, right now it’s very relaxed and laid back and exactly what is needed before we hit the stage, and I know tonight ill be totally the opposite of this.

I look around at where I am and it hits, I love this life and I am grateful to be here. We get something to eat and head back to the tent where we kick back and start discussing the plan of action for the remainder of the day. At the time we arrived at the tent it was not even ours yet. It was still DJ Azhul’s until after his DJ SET.

Both he and his wife were gracious enough to allow us to start getting done and setting up our stuff in the meantime.

We start unpacking our clothes and hanging them on the rail, and finish setting up the make up station. We have celebrities randomly sticking their heads into our tent, greeting one another, and I feel like I’m in some type of fantasy world, except everyone is very down to earth that it all feels so normal.

I thought how weird it was that I didn’t feel nervous yet, and I took a look at Patty and Megan and see their faces to be just as calm as mine. But then it struck me that we haven’t even had our run through yet and time was running out. Were we ready to Rock The Daisies off this crowd? Mini panic set in until we have a quiet moment backstage together and say a little prayer. We just about finished when they announce Patty Monroe’s name – and the crowd starts shouting her name in chant like fashion…all of this before she even hits the stage.

The vibe is set. The crowd is ready.

Patty said it was the “BEST PERFORMANCE OF HER LIFE”  on her facebook page, and her fans agree.

I am so grateful to have been a part of it.
