Lookout Hill Khayelitsha is located on the West Coast Way Cape Route. Lookout Hill provides the best vantage point to realise the actual size of Khayelitsha, and overlook the varoius parts of the township and spectacular views up to the ocean. Constructed in 2004, Lookout Hill is a tourism facility that houses a function hall, restaurant, and arts and crafts stalls – attracting a number of tourists.

Lookout hill boasts great panaramic views of the Cape Peninsula. The hill is a large sand dune that is being protected from ruin. Lookout hill is on the Cape Flats and can be found in Khayalitsha. Take your kids along to view the False bay and the Table bay as well as the Hottentot mountains and durbanville hills. Entrance to the hill is free, but it is advisable to enjoy this attraction with a guide.

The easy walk to the top of the lookout hill takes you to one of Cape Town’s famous yellow frames, which is installed on the 164-step high viewing deck, providing 360-degree views across the Cape Flats.

Visiting Lookout Hill means you can gain first-hand insight into the realities (good and bad) faced by many South Africans. Get to actively interact with the locals as they go about their daily business – from formal and informal traders to the average Joe (in this case Bra Shakes) on the street.

The Malibongwe Restaurant and Coffee Shop is the place to visit after your walk – sit back in this social setting.

Also worth a visit is the Khayelitsha Craft Market at the St Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church, which aims to alleviate poverty in the area. Crafts produced by the local community include handmade curios, pottery, beadwork, baskets and fabric paintings.

Find Lookout Hill on the corner of Mew Way and Spine Road, Ilitha Park, Khayelitsha.
