STOP OFF FOR PADKOS AT A FARM STALL
The best way to begin or break a journey is to stop off at a farm stall. There are several excellent pit stops up the West Coast where you can fill up on delicious food and stock up on snacks for the road.
Vygevallei Farm Stall, Yzerfontein
This popular farm stall is filled with all manner of delicious offerings, including freshly baked farm breads, homemade butter and cheeses, pastas, preserves, local wine, farm breakfasts, cakes, dried fruit and organic herbs. There is also a small farmyard with pot-bellied pigs and ducks to keep the kids entertained. In the Summer the ‘I Love Weskus Market’ is held at Vygevallei Farm stall on the first Sunday of the month, with a variety of stalls and an assortment of live music.

Weskus Farm Stall
Less than an hour from Cape Town, this is far more than a farm stall and it will be hard to drag the kids away. They sell everything from homemade preserves, snacks and all manner of gifts. There is also a great restaurant with a wonderful outdoor area and an amazing aviary, which is home to dozens of exotic birds. The kids will also love the kids play area and running around the indigenous gardens.

The Farmyard Farm Stall
The perfect place to pop in for provisions, they make hearty homemade soups, ready-made meals, pates and spreads as well as delicious preserves, pickles and sauces. They have chickens and other farm animals, setting the farmyard scene.

Die Plaasmol, Hopefield
This unique venue offers not only good food, but also fun for the whole family. Kids will love feeding the farm animals, the nursery offers a wide range of plants and flowers and the curio shop is stocked full of irresistible goodies and knickknacks. Bring along your appetites when you visit as the restaurant is known for its hearty home-cooked meals and the bakery produces the most tempting sweet treats as well as homemade honey, jams, sweets and cookies to take home.

ADVENTURE ON THE OCEAN

The Darling Mystery Trail
This innovative concept is great fun for young and old. Offering an exciting fusion of geo caching and treasure hunting, it takes visitors through the scenic historic village of Darling, and participants will find themselves doing exciting things like hunting for a message in a bottle, searching for clues or using their skills in compass reading. All riddles are family-friendly and distributed only in the secure and relaxed surrounding of the old village of Darling.
Simply get your personal trail map for R25 at the Darling Museum and head off for a relaxing two hour walk, or hop on a bike for a quicker finish. Once all the riddles have been solved, the participants receive a treasure and everyone who finishes the trail stands the chance to win a Darling weekend for two worth R2000.

GO ON A GAME DRIVE
Few things are more thrilling than a game drive, and you don’t need to fly all the way up to the northern provinces of South Africa to experience the thrill. Just a short drive from the city, are several game parks and reserves, including two very popular privately owned reserves.
Thali Thali Game Lodge
Bordering the West Coast National Park, the reserve is home to a wide variety of antelope as well as many other species, including Oryx, giraffe, red hartebeest, eland, zebra, springbok and black wildebeest. Daily game drives are available in a customized open game viewer pick-up or game trailer.
While you are there, you can also try your hand at the ancient sport of archery or test your marksmanship skills at the 3D bow-hunting track.

HERITAGE OF THE WEST COAST
Khwa ttu San Culture and Educational Centre
Offers a fascinating insight into the culture, heritage, knowledge and modern-day life of the San of Southern Africa. The tour is quite literally an adventure and includes: a ride in an open-top vehicle, a walk through !Khwa ttu’s breath-taking landscape, a visit to the replica traditional San village.
They also offer a variety of appealing accommodation facilities ranging from a bush camp to a secluded bush house, pack in your walking shoes or try one of their mountain biking trails to explore the trails.
Mountain bike enthusiasts will love the two well-marked trails: A 10km, circular green route on which you can experience wonderful game encounters and, if you are daring – the highlight is a 20 metre drop down a granite rock face to a water hole.
The old original farmhouse has been lovingly restored over the last four years and now houses a beautifully designed restaurant, which is open for breakfast and lunch daily.
