Every year, after the winter rains, people gather to witness a natural marvel: the Cape West Coast wild flowers blooming in August and September. This incredible flower show, with its vibrant tapestry of colours, offers a truly unforgettable experience. The transformation is astonishing, turning the landscape into a thick carpet of wild flowers in a vivid array of colours. The spring flowers of the Cape West Coast, Cederberg, and Namaqualand are renowned worldwide. This botanical spectacle is unmatched, making it a must-see event on Earth!

TOUR IN DETAIL
Arrival Day: Cape Town – Melkbosstrand
Guests arrive late afternoon at Cape Town International Airport. We collect guests from the airport and transfer them to our accommodation for the evening. We will enjoy a traditional West Coast dinner, including a snoek braai, and then, the much-anticipated briefing for the flower tour awaits.

Day 1:
Melkbosstrand – Piekenierskloof Pass – Citrusdal – Clanwilliam – Ramskop Garden – Biedouw Valley
After breakfast, our journey begins as we take the N7 heading towards the Cederberg, entering through the scenic Piekenierskloof Pass, which serves as a magnificent introduction to the region’s floral wonders. Along the way, we will stop for a refreshing tea or coffee at De Tol Deli, one of the oldest farm stalls on the N7, nestled in the historic landscapes of the Piekenierskloof Pass. As we continue our drive, the route through Citrusdal offers captivating views of vibrant flower patches that herald our arrival in Clanwilliam. Here, we’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch in the serene surroundings of Ramskop Garden, famous for its rich botanical diversity. The day’s highlight is undoubtedly the visit to the breathtaking Biedouw Valley. Known for its expansive “blankets” of colorful wildflowers, this area promises an unforgettable spectacle of nature’s beauty. After soaking in the valley’s splendor, we’ll proceed to Vanrhynsdorp, where we will stay overnight. If time allows, a quick visit to the Rooibos Regional shop will round off our day with a taste of local culture and flavors.

Day 2:
Vanrhynsdorp – Vanrhyns Pass – Nieuwoudtville (Klein Namakwaland) – Matjiesfontein Farm – Hantam Botanical Gardens
We visit the succulent nursery in Vanrhynsdorp (time permitting) before driving through the breathtaking Vanrhyns Pass to Nieuwoudtville in Klein Namakwaland. Our day starts with a stop at the Quiver Tree Forest, offering an extraordinary experience. After immersing ourselves in these unique surroundings, we move to the Nieuwoudtville Waterfalls. The morning is then dedicated to exploring the flower farm Matjiesfontein, a remarkable floral encounter and the day’s highlight. Lunch is a laid-back affair at Die Nedersetting Restaurant in Nieuwoudtville. To wrap up, we visit the stunning Hantam Botanical Gardens before returning to Vanrhynsdorp.

Day 3:
West Coast – West Coast National Park – Postberg
Our return journey takes us through Clanwilliam, Leopoldtsville, Dwarskersbos, and then from Velddrif to Langebaan. While in Velddrif, we may explore the renowned “Bokkomlaan” (time permitting) – a place where time seems to stand still. The highlight of the day will be visiting the Postberg Flower Reserve, a park section only accessible for two months annually. A delightful packed lunch awaits us in the reserve. As the day winds down, we depart from the park in the late afternoon and head towards Melkbosstrand, where we expect to arrive between 5:30 – 6:00 pm, concluding our enchanting flower-filled journey.

We reserve the right to change the daily routes as it deems fit due to weather, road conditions, and where the flowers are showing the best. Please also note that the flowers typically bloom from about 10 am – 3 pm, depending on the weather and the sun, and this plays a huge part in our daily itinerary!
