Each year after the winter rains, the Cape West Coast puts on a show! In August and September, the landscape suddenly shifts from dry and quiet to bright and full of life. Wildflowers open up across fields in every direction, creating a moment that feels almost unreal. People travel from all over just to see it for themselves, and once you do, it’s easy to understand why the Cape West Coast, Cederberg, and Namaqualand blooms are known around the world.

TOUR IN DETAIL
Day 1: Cape Town – Melkbosstrand
Arriving in the late afternoon at Cape Town International Airport, guests will be transported via our shuttle to The Lodge at Atlantic Beach, Melkbosstrand. Alternatively, those with their own transport can make their way directly to the lodge. The evening will commence with an eagerly awaited briefing for the flower tour, followed by a traditional West Coast dinner. This meal will feature delicious snoek, mussels, sandveld potatoes, cheese and jam, roosterkoek, skuinskoek, and a selection of West Coast wine, beer, and refreshing rooibos drinks.

Day 2:
Melkbosstrand – Piekenierskloof Pass – Citrusdal – Clanwilliam – Ramskop Garden – Biedouw Valley
After breakfast, our adventure begins as we head along the N7 towards the Cederberg, passing through the picturesque Piekenierskloof Pass, a stunning introduction to the region’s floral splendour. En route, we will pause for a refreshing tea or coffee or wine tasting at one of the many charming farm stalls along the N7. Continuing our journey, the route through Citrusdal offers enchanting views of vibrant flower patches, agricultural land, and citrus orchards, welcoming us to Clanwilliam. Here, we’ll indulge in a leisurely lunch amidst the tranquil beauty of Ramskop Garden, renowned for its rich botanical diversity. The day’s highlight is undoubtedly the visit to the breathtaking Biedouw Valley. Famous for its vast “blankets” of colourful wildflowers, this area offers an unforgettable spectacle of nature’s brilliance. After immersing ourselves in the valley’s splendour, we’ll make our way to Vanrhynsdorp for an overnight stay.

Day 3:
Vanrhynsdorp – Vanrhyns Pass – Nieuwoudtville – Matjiesfontein Farm – Nieuwoudtville Waterfall
We journey through the stunning Vanrhyns Pass to reach Nieuwoudtville. Our day begins with a visit to the Nieuwoudtville Waterfalls, followed by the Quiver Tree Forest — both offering an exceptional experience. The morning is spent exploring the flower farm Matjiesfontein and/or Willemsrivier, a remarkable floral encounter and the day’s highlight. Lunch is a relaxed affair. If time permits, we visit the beautiful historic Nieuwoudtville Neo-Gothic styled church before heading back to Vanrhynsdorp.

Day 4:
West Coast – Bokkomlaan, West Coast National Park – Postberg
Our return trip takes us to Velddrif and Langebaan. Whilst in Velddrif, we may explore the famous “Bokkomlaan” – a place where time appears to stand still. The day’s highlight will be visiting the Postberg Flower Reserve, a section of the West Coast National Park open only for two months each year. A delightful packed lunch awaits us within the reserve. As the day comes to a close, we leave the park in the late afternoon and head towards Melkbosstrand, anticipating our arrival between 5:00 and 6:00 pm, concluding our enchanting, flower-filled journey.

- Tour Adjustments
- We reserve the right to modify daily routes as necessary, based on weather, road conditions, and optimal flower viewing locations. Be advised that flowers generally bloom between 10 am and 3 pm, influenced by weather and sunlight, which significantly impacts our daily schedule.
- Packing and Luggage
- We kindly ask you to bring a small suitcase, as there will be no trailer available for this tour and space is limited.
