Book a Darling Wine and Beer Deluxe with West Coast Way – a scenic 75km from Cape Town CBD.

We head north in an air-conditioned mini-bus to the quaint town of Darling, nestled amongst the vineyards, wheat fields and nature reserves. Home to some magnificent wine estates and farms, you will have time to walk through the village and soak up the atmosphere and unique heritage.

Our first stop of the morning is at one of South Africa’s most famous and flamboyant attractions: Evita se Perron – the theatre and playground of South Africa’s most famous ‘tannie’ (aunt) and satirist, Evita Bezuidenhout. Walk through the gardens and get a look at South Africa’s troubled past and turbulent present displayed with wonderfully irreverent humour. Sculptures titled ‘Gravy Train’ and ‘Burassic Park’ are just a few of the delights of this off beat museum. Your visit includes a warm welcome and a koeksister (traditional Afrikaans delicacy) and coffee/tea from the Restaurant.

After your culture stop the trip continues to Darling Sweet for a delectable toffee tasting where you will get to hear how this unique toffee brand was started and get to taste new innovative products, like the new Toffee Spread!

Then head over to the Darling Museum which is also home to the Butter Museum. You can decide to either do a walk through early 1900’s replica rooms – a class room, bedroom, kitchen and bar– and then immediately start with the Darling Mystery Trail: departing from Darling Museum, this is an hour long self-guided walk that takes you to the nooks and crannies of Darling. At every point a riddle awaits you that you have to solve and which will take you to the next point of interest on the Darling Mystery Trail map.

Our next stop is Darling Brew for a beer tasting and the inside scoop on how South Africa’s best craft beer is made. You will be taken on a tour of the brewery! Darling Brew is also the place where you will get to enjoy lunch – made from locally sourced ingredients such as olives, artisan bread, charcuterie, braaivleis (barbecue) and wholesome vegetarian options! This is the ‘slow beer, slow food‘ country.

There are ample opportunities to buy wine, beer, gifts and art along the way and your friendly West Coast Way chauffeur will be standing ready to load and transport these back for you.

We return to Cape Town with amazing photos and fond memories.
