Langebaan Country Estate Cycle Challenge & MTB Fun Ride

Time: 07:00
Location: Langebaan Country Estate

These popular cycle challenges are presented annually – in part in the West Coast National Park (WCNP) – by the SANParks Honorary Rangers: West Coast Region, in conjunction with the Pedal Power Association (PPA) and the main sponsor, Langebaan Country Estate (LCE). All proceeds from the events will be donated to the West Coast National Park.
The main venue is the driving range at LCE. The Cycle Challenge comprises two routes – 80km and 30km – starting respectively at 07:00 and 07:45. Both rides mainly take place inside the WCNP, with the routes winding through some of the most beautiful scenery on the West Coast. The finish line is at the top of Stumpnose Rock (affectionately known as Mamba Hill).
The cost is as follows: 80 km – with a PPA number R190 (online) and R240 (late entry); without a PPA number R240 (online) and R290 (late entry). For the 30km ride – with a PPA number R120 (online) and R170 (late entry); without a PPA number R160 for online entries and R220 for late entries. A helmet is a requirement for participation and children u/12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The MTB Fun Ride on Sunday also comprises two routes, 18km and 38km, starting respectively at 07:30 and 08:00 at the driving range. The shorter route takes place wholly within the Langebaan Country Estate. Although more of an intermediate route, the start and finish venue is in close proximity of most of the “main” route, ensuring plenty of support.
The route for both races includes a few relatively tough climbs which, when completed, rewards riders with beautiful panoramic views of the area, especially the lagoon. The longer route covers a very short section of tar before dropping down into the WCNP onto MTB tracks.
The cost is as follows: 38km – with a PPA number R180 (online) and R240 (late entry); without a PPA number R230 (online) and R290 (late entry). For the 18km ride – with a PPA number R80 for pre-entries and R120 (late entry); without a PPA number R100 (pre-entries) and R140 for late entries.
The closing date for pre-entries for both events is Thursday 09 November and can be done online at www.lcecyclechallenge.co.za or www.racetec.co.za. Late entries close on the day of the race, at the marque tent on the LCE driving range.
Spectators and supporters must take note that the Park will be closed for traffic for the duration of the fun ride. They can, however, enjoy the music, various food stalls and beer tent at the LCE driving range while waiting for the participants.
