On Sunday, 15 March, Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts held in association with Old Mutual will host local powerhouses, Sun-El Musician, Simmy and Busiswa.
Since the unexpected success of Sun-El Musician’s 2017 smash debut single, ‘Akanamali’, Sun-El has produced a series of hits proving that it wasn’t just a fluke. His inevitable debut album, Africa to the World creatively blended house, soul and traditional South African genres such as mbaqanga.
“My performances are all about mood and a deep, hypnotic groove. I love playing tracks that get people’s feet tapping and heads nodding before they realise it, regardless of genre, tempo, style. So fans at Kirstenbosch shouldn’t be surprised when they suddenly find themselves dancing,” said Sun-El.
Sun-El will be joined by Afro-pop protégé, Simmy. Simmy’s airy vocals and Sun-El’s irresistible beats have entranced dance floors across the country and beyond. Together, this duo has created some of the most memorable musical moments in recent years such as ‘Sonini’ and ‘Ntaba Ezikude’ and they are sure to give a performance concert-goers won’t soon forget.
Closing the day’s concert will be dancefloor diva, Busiswa, who will be making her debut at Kirstenbosch. Busiswa’s vocal prowess has led to countless hit collaborations with artists such as DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Prince Kaybee and even international icon, Beyoncé on The Lion King’s award-winning soundtrack, The Gift.
Busiswa’s latest hit ‘4 the Kulture’ has had people on their feet all summer and even inspired a viral social media dance challenge. Her Summer Sunset Concerts debut is sure to feature her incredible voice, infectious beats and catchy choreography that will have more than just heads bobbing. “Performing in Cape Town is always a highlight, and I can’t wait to do it for the culture at Kirstenbosch!” concluded Busiswa.
It’s going to be a jol!
Bring family and friends, pack a picnic with food and refreshments and enjoy an energetic show in the most beautiful garden in Cape Town. Moyo food trucks will serve freshly made burgers, boerie rolls, chipstix, beverages and snacks at the concert.
