!Khwa Ttu Wins A #WaterSustainabilityAward In The Sanlam Top Destination Awards

2018 Celebrates 4 phenomenal years for the annual prestigious Sanlam Top Destination Awards and plans to expand this year with additional entries, more guests at the awards ceremony in September, extravagant décor and further prolific sponsorship opportunities with our fabulous theme: Authentically African #MyHeartBeatsAfrica.

The Sanlam Top Destination Awards has been created as an honorary platform for the Hospitality Industry to put their best foot forward and to be selected as the national “Top Destination” in their respective categories & star grading.

!Khwa Ttu Wins A #WaterSustainabilityAward In The Sanlam Top Destination Awards

The First People, as some call the San, are extensively researched. Yet little is available to them or in public spaces; !Khwa ttu’s new heritage centre aims to change this. It “embraces the principle of community curation, led by San consultants from across Southern Africa and academics. The exhibitions, San-led trails and guided experiences engage the body and senses as much as the mind,” says Michael Daiber, general manager. Embedded into a ridge facing the Atlantic, the centre combines old wisdom with new technology and architecture. Its canopy represents a shelter where people gather to learn and share. We’ll also enjoy the eland, zebra and other animals in the rehabilitated land, as well as the Spring flowers and sea views. Bring a bike if you wish to try one of their special trails afterwards, or perhaps stay the night.

Khwa ttu is a registered Fair Trade Tourism operator, and consistently meets the rigorous standards associated with this programme.

!Khwa ttu is a thriving tourism destination, boasting a busy restaurant, stylish guest houses, open air tented camps, thrilling mountain bike trails and a shop selling hand-crafted gifts to be found nowhere else.  San guides lead unique tours for visitors as part of !Khwa ttu’s mission to re-claim and share San heritage in their own way.

All of our tourism activities not only enable us to generate revenue for our developmental programmes, but also provide invaluable practical opportunities for the San to develop livelihood skills.  In some respects, the entirety of the organisation is an apprenticeship and skills development incubator.

San Heritage Festival At !Khwa ttu

This year the San living and training at !Khwa ttu invite you to join them for a Heritage Festival, from Saturday, 22 September, to Monday, 24 September, from 10am-4pm.

All South Africans love flame-cooked food and, of course, there will be a delicious selection of braai cuisine on offer, a bar and a food bazaar for those wishing to purchase refreshments.

There’ll also be activities for the whole family to enjoy, from herbal tea tastings, San storytelling, and tracking, to traditional dancing, singing and tractor rides – for this weekend only all activities are free of charge.
