Every year thousands of people descend on Riebeek Valley for the annual Olive Festival which is located on the Scenic Route. For the past 2 years I’ve missed it, but this year I ensured that I soaked up the delectable local olives, cheese, gourmet food and tantalizing wines this years festival had on offer.
Riebeek Valley Olive Festival
Taking advantage of the free shuttle service or tractor rides in and around the valley makes it so much easier to pop in at all the venues. Visiting and chatting to the locals, you feel at home in this town, so welcomed! What I love is that the entire community gets involved in running this festival, after all they are showcasing their beautiful Riebeek Valley! Walking into the Riebeek Gallery, you will be in awe of the beautiful local artwork you can find, from charcoal drawings to commissioned glass wall mosaics. Then you also find Recycled Guitars – Up cycling is the new craze – using old wine barrel panels and bicycle parts to create art, authentic and unique only in South Africa. No matter which venue you visit, you will find live music, great wines, olives, grapes off the vines and more. Kloovenberg, Het Vlock Kasteel, Olive Boutique – have to get my favourite, balsamic smoked olives…. Even if you don’t eat olives, you will enjoy this one, I promise. Riebeek Cellars Montino Rosso sparkling red, a have to get! Allesverloren, Pulpit Rock celebrating the traditional SA potjie.
Ideal family trip or enjoy with friends savouring and enjoying the local fair. So I’ve enjoyed my trip via the West Coast Way, until next year Riebeek Valley! And don’t just take my word for it, check out some of the beautiful photos from other visitors to the Festival:
