Take it easy at The Lodge At Atlantic Beach on the West Coast Way Culture Route this school holiday!
Melkbosstrand is one of our favourite parts of Cape Town. It has that laid back beach vibe that an ex-Durbanite like ourselves finds so appealing. This week we were lucky enough to stay at The Lodge at Atlantic Beach on the West Coast Way Culture Route, in the heart of Melkbos, for some rest and relaxation. It’s been a busy week, so the idea of switching my work off and putting my feet up was a welcome relief. The Lodge has 20 luxurious rooms to choose from, which includes a continental and hot breakfast. As a guest of the Lodge you are able to make full use of the restaurant and amenities at the Atlantic Beach Golf Club, including their private leisure club which offers tennis, swimming, gym, the spa and the beauty salon.
On the last Tuesday of the month, the clubhouse is closed to the public, which happened to be the night that we were staying. In a way, this turned out to be a good thing, because it allowed us to get out and explore Melkbos a bit more. Just down the road from The Lodge is the main road in Melkbos, which offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes to choose from. After a walk on the beach, we made our way to I Love Melkies for a few glasses of wine (buy one get one free wine carafe on a Tuesday afternoon). We ordered pizza to go and enjoyed it in the comfort of our room at The Lodge.
I’m all about convenience, so The Lodge was the perfect place for me. You really feel like you’ve gone away, but everything you need is right at your fingertips. The beach at your doorstep, the view of Table Mountain out your window, and the vast expanse of rolling greens around you.
Of course, if golf is your thing, you’ve come to the right place. The best part about staying at The Lodge is that you can bring your entire family with you and know that they are having a great time while you’re out on the golf course all day. This is a multi-faceted golf resort that caters for the needs of everyone in the family. This 18 hole golf course is a great way to spend your day, with the view of Table Mountain in front of you, and the option of sleeping over at The Lodge once you’re finished.
Make a trip out of it.
Combine your stay at The Lodge with a West Coast Darling road trip for some wine tasting at Ormonde Wine Estate, a beer tasting at Darling Brew or a wander around the Darling Museum. Add a West Coast safari with a game drive, archery and a self-guided nature walk at Thali Thali Game Lodge. Or turn it into a foodie road trip and visit Russells on the Port for lunch and cocktails overlooking the Port Owen Marina. West Coast Way is South Africa’s road trip with the most twists. South Africans and visitors can explore a unique collection of themed routes to do adventure-filled Cape West Coast self-drive trips or a West Coast Holiday. The new West Coast Way “basket” of free routes on offer include the West Coast Way Tractor Route, the West Coast Way Berg Route, the West Coast Way Foodie Route, the West Coast Way Cultural Route – as well as the newly launched West Coast Way Wild Route, all of which are designed to showcase the many attractions and activities that are already on offer on the Cape West Coast and inland areas – but may be unknown to many. For more information on West Coast Way’s #WestCoastTwist and the list of 101 Things to Do on the West Coast visit www.westcoastway.co.za or call West Coast Way on 0861 321 777.
