Port Owen is located on the West Coast Way Berg Route. Located only 90 minutes from Cape Town, the unexplored area around Port Owen is the idyllic location for a restful stay.

Port Owen is exactly what its name suggests, a port, with a beautiful marina and yacht club. The stunning Berg River curls around two sides of the town and feeds 3,5km of canals, creating sheltered waterways for superb kayaking. The network of canals gives boat’s access to both the sea and the river. Its proximity to St. Helena Bay makes it ideal anchorage for yachtsmen. This bay, the largest on the West Coast of Africa, offers the finest sailing conditions on the South African coastline due to its sheltered nature and orientation to the prevailing summer wind.

Port Owen is named after H Owen Wiggins Junior, who developed the marina and its residential plots. To achieve this, approximately1 million cubic metres of sand and rock was dredged over a 15 year period and a 7km embankment was constructed as well as many jetties and a commercial centre.

Port Owen was the first deep-sea, residential marina developed in South Africa. The waterways are controlled by the Port Owen Marina Authority.Port Owen is surrounded on three sides by the Great Berg River, which limits its future growth making sure it remains restful and exclusive. The river is navigable for 56 km for shallow-drought boats.

In a nutshell – Port Owen is definitely the place to stay for a while with many accommodation options available!
