The Lodge at Atlantic Beach is where the best of surf and turf meet.
Situated just outside Melkbosstrand – a town as famous for its tranquil setting as it is for adrenalin sports – this Cape West Coast oasis is within driving distance from the Darling winelands to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.
With 4-star accommodation surrounded by a world-class golf course, The Lodge offers you the choice to go explore or simply stay in and enjoy the view.
The green green grass of… Melkbosstrand with its 2016/17 Blue Flag Beach status
A short drive from The Lodge you’ll find Melkbosstrand where a bright purple lifesaver’s shed and decidedly retro NSRI boathouse give you a taste of the character of the town.
Damhuis restaurant with its highly-detailed stone statues and the Miami-flavoured Bistro on Beach maintains the town’s artistic seaside theme as they look out over a (very) wide beach flanked by rocks and bamboo.
Almost as wide as Melkbosstrand’s main beach, is an apparently manicured lawn separating the restaurants from the sea. It’s where surf, turf and comfort meet to offer the best way to enjoy the sea without the sand. There are benches for the less adventurous and spots of shade for a lazy afternoon nap. Beyond the lawn the waves beckon and you’ll be hard-pressed not to leave the grass for a stroll on the beach.
Even farther, beyond the Koeberg Nature Reserve (you’ll have to drive), you’ll find the slopes of the Atlantis dune field where adventure seekers who don’t mind the sand can get their fix with the help of a host of sandboarding operators in the area.
The golf course at The Lodge at Atlantic Beach
Looking out from the dining room at The Lodge at Atlantic Beach you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’re standing at St. Andrews in Scotland on a very hot, very sunny day. Stretching before you you’ll see the 10th fairway of a links course rated as one of the premier golf courses in the Western Cape.
Atlantic Beach golf course features 18 holes covering a distance of 6229 metres which puts it on a par with courses in Scotland. The only thing separating it from the UK, however, is a variety of antelope – including Springbok – roaming the fairways.
Conferences and weddings
A short walk from The Lodge you’ll find the Atlantic Beach Golf Club with top-rated facilities able to host the perfect wedding or conference.
The Atlantic Beach Golf Club boasts panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Table Mountain and its golf fairways and has a choice of conferencing facilities from Cinema, U-Shape / Boardroom to Classroom-style. Wedding facilities include The Terrace where guests can wind down and enjoy cuisine dished up by an award-winning chef.
Best of all? The Honeymoon Suite at The Lodge is on the house for newlyweds with reduced rates for guests attending the wedding.
Swim, run, relax
A breakaway at The Lodge is not only for the easy-going. At the Leisure Centre you’ll find two tennis courts, a fitness centre and – departing outside the entrance – a special trail running around the perimeter of the entire property specially laid out for habitual runners and nature walkers.
When you’ve worked up both a sweat and an appetite, grab something to eat at The Lounge, slide into the pool or lie down for a treatment at the Wellness Spa.
