A short drive from The Lodge you’ll find Melkbosstrand where a bright purple lifesaver’s shed and decidedly retro NSRI boathouse give you a taste of the character of the town.
Damhuis restaurant with its highly-detailed stone statues and the Miami-flavoured Bistro on Beach maintains the town’s artistic seaside theme as they look out over a (very) wide beach flanked by rocks and bamboo.
Almost as wide as Melkbosstrand’s main beach, is an apparently manicured lawn separating the restaurants from the sea. It’s where surf, turf and comfort meet to offer the best way to enjoy the sea without the sand. There are benches for the less adventurous and spots of shade for a lazy afternoon nap. Beyond the lawn the waves beckon and you’ll be hard-pressed not to leave the grass for a stroll on the beach.
Even farther, beyond the Koeberg Nature Reserve (you’ll have to drive), you’ll find the slopes of the Atlantis dune field where adventure seekers who don’t mind the sand can get their fix with the help of a host of sandboarding operators in the area.

Looking out from the dining room at The Lodge at Atlantic Beach you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’re standing at St. Andrews in Scotland on a very hot, very sunny day. Stretching before you you’ll see the 10th fairway of a links course rated as one of the premier golf courses in the Western Cape.
Atlantic Beach golf course features 18 holes covering a distance of 6229 metres which puts it on a par with courses in Scotland. The only thing separating it from the UK, however, is a variety of antelope – including Springbok – roaming the fairways.
