Cape West Coast Now Open For Tourism
Road Trip With The Most Twists: A unique new road trip experience has been launched on the Cape West Coast which showcases the myriad of diverse attractions, activities, cultures, communities’ foods and flavours to be found in this area.
Officially opened by Shadow Minister of Tourism, James Vos, on Wednesday 19 April at World Travel Market, South Africa’s Road Trip With The Most Twists, which was conceptualised by West Coast Way, is a self-drive route which showcases the Cape West Coast, the West Coast Biodiversity Corridor, and the businesses and attractions that fall within this area.
The exciting SA’s Road Trip With The Most Twists concept has been developed to draw increased and essential domestic tourism to this region, which has so much to offer visitors. The “twists” referred to feature the West Coast Way developed Foodie, Culture, Wild, Tractor and Berg Routes – each of which takes visitors to a selection of towns, locations and attractions.
Let’s Twist Again
Carmen Lerm, CEO and founder of West Coast Way, explains that these “twists”, or loops, were each carefully created and individually launched and marketed in a staggered campaign by West Coast Way, with each one featuring its own variety of unique and exciting attractions which fall within the themes of food, culture, wild, scenic, and berg.
“We have now consolidated all of these routes into one offering entitled South Africa’s Road Trip With The Most Twists – with the idea being for domestic and international visitors to embark on this self-drive adventure and to then choose which of the loops or twists they wish to follow. Visitors can choose as many or as few of these twists as they want and can mix and match the stops along the various different routes – tailor making a road trip that perfectly suites their time constraints, budgets, interests etc.”
Lerm goes on to advise that with over 101 things to see and do in the area (find this list on www.westcoastway.co.za) there is something for everyone on SA’s Road Trip with the Most Twists.
In another new development, West Coast Way partner accommodation offerings, which can be found along this new road trip route can now be booked via the popular South African booking system Lekkeslaap – with a specially developed widget on every page of the West Coast Way website making it as easy as possible for locals to book their next holiday accommodation.
Linger a day longer
Lerm explains that West Coast Way has worked together with top attractions and accommodation venues along this new road trip route and have put together a “3 for 2” offering where visitors book two nights and get the third night free. “Running from 1 May to 31 August, this offer will enable visitors to stay a day longer and includes participating attractions such as Thali Thali Game Lodge, Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort, The Lodge at Atlantic Beach, Russells on the Port, Blue Bay Lodge and !Khwa ttu – all brands which have taken the lead in showcasing their product and areas and who exhibited alongside West Coast Way at our WTM Africa stand from 19 April to 21 April.”
“Domestic tourism is coming under pressure because of a worsening economy and the lack of affordable holiday destinations. West Coast Way works ceaselessly to promote a culture of travel and touring amongst South Africans through effective marketing, and information sharing on domestic tourism offerings in the Cape West Coast region. The launch of this new road trip is the culmination of years of hard work,” concludes Lerm, who also advises that tour operators can use this new road trip and its twists as part of their itinerary and easily find what they need to put bespoke and new packages together.
SA’s Road Trip With The Most Twists will act as the front door for the Cape West Coast and immediate surrounds – showcasing its beautiful venues, attractions, activities, character, cultural and natural experiences – everything that makes the area unique. And in so doing significantly increasing the number of quality visitors to the area who then get to ‘take the road less travelled’.
